THE OCCULT -- SECRET BUT NOT DARK
Most people associate the term "Occult" with darkness, evil or black magic. This is a travesty of misinterpretation for this much abused word. Here are definitions of the word "occult" from two highly respected dictionaries: COLLINS: "1. of or characteristic of magical, mystical or supernatural arts, phenomena, or influences: 2. beyond ordinary human understanding. 3. secret or esoteric." OXFORD: "1. involving the supernatural; mystical, magical. 2. kept secret, esoteric. 3. recondite, mysterious; beyond the range of ordinary knowledge."

Well, unless my eyesight is failing me, I couldn't find in either of these definitions anything vaguely relating to "black; the Devil; Satan; dangerous; to be avoided at all costs." Perhaps the real meaning of the word has been deliberately corrupted by the Christian Church, to discourage people from delving too deeply into any practice or field of knowledge that might threaten the credibility of the crude, and largely contradictory doctrine of orthodox religion.

The word "esoteric" usually gets the same mistreatment as "occult." Christians might care to note the various references which Jesus made between exoteric teachings (comprehensible to the ordinary people) and esoteric teachings (intended only for the inner circle, or the initiated). Note Matthew 13: 10 - 11. The disciples came to him and asked, "Why do you speak to the people in parables?" He replied, "The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them." [see also, Mark 4:11; and Luke 8:10] [There is a very good reason for keeping certain knowledge shrouded in mystery, because there are powers latent in man which, if known to people of questionable character, can be used to produce great evil and destruction. There is considerable evidence to suggest that Adolf Hitler gained access to some of this protected knowledge and used it, as we know too well, in horrendous ways.]

I will return now to the common understanding of occultism as referring to things specifically evil or dangerous, rather than merely "esoteric." Most of these practices or areas of knowledge can be lumped together under the general heading of Fortune Telling. In this grouping we might include clairvoyance, Tarot, astrology, numerology, palmistry and even tea-leaf reading. Clairvoyance or mediumship is not actually a practice forbidden in the Christian Bible, but rather indicated as unsavoury and to be avoided: (see, for example, Leviticus 19:31 ... "Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God.") There are many similar references in the Old Testament which likewise warn against mediumship and spiritualism, but fall short of labelling these practices as being essentially evil, or of the devil.

From my personal experience, I can relate strongly to the wisdom of avoiding becoming dependent on the prophesies of the various types of fortune telling. Here is another Biblical reference: Isiah 8:19 ... "When men tell you to consult mediums and spiritists, who whisper and mutter, should not a people enquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?" Again, no outright condemnation of these practices, but a strong recommendation to avoid contact with them. And the reason? Simple. People who come to rely on fortune-telling of any kind, lose confidence in their own ability to make decisions and often end up becoming largely dysfunctional. BLAVATSKY.NET

THE AKASHIC RECORDS -- THE UNIVERSAL LIBRARY THE AKASHIC RECORDS -- THE UNIVERSAL LIBRARY

Akasha is a Sanskrit word meaning "sky", "space" or "aether". The Akashic Records are said to be a collection of mystical knowledge that is stored in the aether; i.e. on a non-physical plane of existence. The concept is common in some New Age religious groups. The Akashic Records are said to have existed since the beginning of the planet. Just as we have various specialty libraries (e.g., medical, law), there are said to exist various Akashic Records (e.g., human, animal, plant, mineral, etc). Most writings refer to the Akashic Records in the area of human experience.[Picture shows Edgar Cayce]

HISTORY of AKASHIC RECORDS

Some who believe in the Records claim that they were used by ancient peoples around the world, including the Tibetans, Egyptians, Persians, Chaldeans, Greeks, Chinese, Hebrews, Christians, Druids, and Mayans. The belief is that the pre-Buddhist priests of the Himalayas knew that each soul recorded every moment of its existence in a "book", and that if one attuned oneself properly then one could read or view that book. In Egypt, it is said, those who could read the Akasha were held in high standing and were often found advising Pharaohs on daily activities and dream interpretation. A Chinese gentleman named Sujujin was reported to need only the first name of anyone to access the Akasha and describe their life history; another Chinese seer, named Tajao, explored a variety of topics in the Records which span over two thousand years.

The Druid cultures of England and Wales (400–900) are said to have demonstrated the ability to access the Akasha. To gain access to the Akasha, the famous fortune teller Nostradamus claimed to have used methods derived from the Greek oracles, Christian and Sufi mysticism, and the Kabbala. Individuals who claim to have consciously used the Akashic Records include many ordinary, unknown people, but a few of the well-known individuals include: Charles Webster Leadbeater, Annie Besant, Alice Bailey, William Lilly, Manly P. Hall, Lilian Treemont, Dion Fortune, George Hunt Williamson, Mary Baker Eddy, Rudolf Steiner, and Edgar Cayce.

Although some claim that the Akashic Records have been used by mystics throughout history, the term itself, along with the concept of an aetheric library, originated with the 19th century movement of Theosophy. Skeptics suggest that the concept of Akashic Records has been attributed indiscriminately and inappropriately to a wide range of historical religious figures and movements.

One account [Lewis Bostwick] is more pragmatic. The Akashic Records were created from necessity. Birth and death are spiritually intense events, and information was often lost during these times. Other intense experiences also caused loss of spiritual information. The Akashic Records were created to manage the risk of losing what you learned and having to repeat experiences, not through karma or another means of judgement, but because spiritual information gained from life experience is cumulative and serially dependent, like learning to count before you learn math. The Akashic Records are copies of a spirit's information, a backup in case something gets lost or damaged. Spiritual growth was more rapid and orderly after the Akashic Records were created.

The time before the Akashic Records and the common loss of information may have given rise to the belief in the Wheel of Life and karma. The contents of the Akashic Records, namely spiritual information, is timeless in nature and this timelessness may have given rise to the belief that the Akashic Records have been around longer than they have. [Wayne Martin]

Initially, everyone had access to their own Records. However, this proved unworkable. The ethics dominant in one lifetime would influence the spirit to try to edit or destroy their experiences gained from another lifetime. This resulted in loss of information and slower spiritual growth. So a security system was created.

Akashic Record Keepers were established to manage the copies of information and ensure that the Records were not modified or destroyed. There have been incidents of damage to one spirit's Akashic Records being caused by another spirit and procedures were created to manage this. Certain clairvoyants have permission to assist in the repair of Akashic Records. (Clairvoyance in this context strictly means 'clear seeing', or the ability to see spirit and energy, and does not mean seeing the future, a common misunderstanding.)

SKEPTICS

Though much literature exists on the subject, the existence of the Akashic Records is in serious doubt by the scientific community, due to a serious deficiency of anything that could be interpreted as hard evidence or actual rigorous scientific testing.

DESCRIPTION and EXPLANATION of the AKASHIC RECORDS

The Akasha is said to be the library of all events and responses concerning Human Consciousness in all realities. Every human therefore contributes and has access to the Akashic Records. In modern terms, the Records can be described as the original "Internet" or "World Wide Web", except instead of individual webpages stored in computer systems and connected by electricity, the Records are a nonphysical etheric energy system where an individual's etheric "webpage" is stored on the ethers, and can be viewed (or read) if one knows how to attune to the correct frequency. For instance, to view television or listen to a radio, you need the correct physical medium and the correct frequency; otherwise you would only receive static, white noise, etc, but nothing useful.

It is claimed that to gain access into the Akashic Records, every individual human can become the physical medium, and various techniques (e.g., yogic breathing, visualizations) can be employed to quiet the mind, become a "witness", and achieve the focused, preconscious state necessary to access the Records. While in the Akashic Records and viewing the past, both the events and responses are said to be visible. This can be compared to seeing a full color movie with a plot and characters. When viewing the future, the events are known, but the responses are only probable. Based on an individual's responses in the past, the Akashic seer/reader can investigate probable future responses and give the highest future probability. A simple illustration of this might be witnessing several alternate endings to the main characters in a movie (e.g., Run, Lola, Run). However, at some point in the evolution of the Akashic reader, a state of unification and awareness can be achieved whereby even the future responses are known with absolute clarity instead of only as a probability.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTS of the AKASHIC RECORDS

In Theosophy and the various New Age-related faiths, the Akashic Records are records of all knowledge, including all human experience down to the finest detail, held in the universe. The Akashic records resemble a library and are also compared to a universal computer (some would say the 'Mind of God')

. The Akashic Records are referred to by Edgar Cayce, who stated that each person is held to account after life and 'confronted' with their personal Akashic record of what they have/not done in life in a karmic sense. This is not however a process evaluated by the supposed limited lowly earth plane mind—i.e. the brain—but one fathomed by the higher mind or one's 'super-consciousness'. In this higher state of consciousness, one is assumed capable of seeing the recent life as merely one amongst the many the soul may have had. From this vantage point of Godlike function, with total understanding one can clearly assess the life and the soul's spiritual progress—learning being the prime directive of the soul (according to those who believe in this sort of thing).

Jane Roberts in the Seth books describes a different version of a similar idea when Seth asserts that the fundamental stuff of the universe is ideas and consciousness, and that an idea once conceived exists forever. Seth argued that all ideas and knowledge are in principle accessible by "direct cognition". Direct cognition is similar to or perhaps identical to intuition and is said to allow direct knowing without time elapsing and without knowledge needing to be transferred e.g. in speech or text. This is similar to what Robert Monroe refers to as rotes in his out-of-body book trilogy.

The CONCEPT is analogous to the PRESERVED TABLETS taught in ISLAM

Some writers believe that free from and independent of all religions and faiths, there exist many libraries or record repositories such as the Akashic library throughout the universe, albeit on various planes of existence. On a related note, on Monroe focus level 27, there is a place which has been referred to by many as "the park"; a library with an incredible amount of knowledge is conveniently located there. The library and the knowledge contained within is a manifestation of some collective energy from the Higher Selves while they have incarnational experiences on Earth. The knowledge can serve to assist Higher Selves' incarnations, if appropriate or required, to learn and advance while on Earth. When all Higher Selves have achieved their goals and leave the Earth, the library will no longer be required, and hence its energy will be withdrawn.

Healing practices from several New Age disciplines (clairvoyant healing specifically) view the Akashic Records as copies of an individual spirit's information. As such these are like a backup copy of all of the life experience of each spirit [Wayne Martin]. The healer, upon seeing that information is missing from a spirit, may request a copy from the Akashic Record Keeper. One practice involves the healer matching the energy of the Akashic Records to be there and gain access to the Record Keepers to make the request. Another practice is to send a spirit guide to fetch the information. This latter practice has been discouraged over time as it builds an unnecessary dependency upon spirit guides. Any information retrieved by the healer is allowed to find its own way into the space of the spirit being healed. This prevents bias in the outcome and opens the doors to learninmg something new for the healer. The information will integrate on its own to the level it can. This may be in the body or on only an energy level.

The healer is not admitted to the Akashic Records. Historically, this has been shown to be necessary to prevent the ethics from one lifetime from influencing the spirit into editing and destroying the spiritual experiences of another lifetime. No one may enter their own Akashic Records. However, those who can see spirit and energy and can match the vibration of their Akashic Records and maintain separation may view their own records. Descriptions range from a cave filled with crystals to herb gardens to collections of tools or weapons or symbols. Some individuals have reported the image of their Records changing over time. This is likely due to a changing spiritual perspective, similar to the parable of the blind men and the elephant. A spirit can see what it sees.

Jesus taught, "Those who have eyes to see, let them see, and ears to hear, let them hear." The abilities to match energy and maintain separation are the enabling spiritual skills to realize this teaching. This is also the foundation for getting to the Akashic Records used by the healers mentioned above. [Wayne Martin]
